Located in Medoc Appellation in Bordeaux of France, Chateau Pontet-Canet was rated a Fifth Growth in the 1855 Classification. Its history dates back to the early 18th century when it was created by Jean-Franois Pontet. Although Jean-Franois was the founder of Chateau Pontet-Canet, it was under Pierre-Bernard de Pontet's management that the chateau formed its own style. Pierre-Bernard has made great contribution to establishing great reputation for the chateau. Chateau Pontet-Canet perfomed flat at that time, but it was until 1990s that it really stood out as one of the Grand Cru Classe.
The Chateau Pontet-Canet has a total area of 120 hectares, including 80 hectares of vineyards. Lying in the south of Pauilllac there are a large scale vineyards which are situated in a privileged position. Quaternary gravelly soil in the vineyard is covered with clay and limestone soil. There a re 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Francand 2% Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines is 35 years.
